The Illusion Dunes (Training)

Even though they successfully made it through the desert, Shao was intrigued by the land around him. It felt like a weight was off his shoulders to be out of the leaf village. He felt the wind blow past him. The sting of the sand on his skin didn't bother him as much as he thought.

However, Shao was alone as he looked out at the sand dunes and sweat dripped from his brow. He looked carefully at the surroundings, and saw how vision shifted for him. Even with his blessed Byakkugan, the mirages-- the tricks of the heat that warped the light around him, seemed to play more on his mind than anything else.

"I wonder if this is what genjutsu is like?" Shao asked.

"I hear the desert is often a great place for sand shinobi to use their genjutsu-- cause enemies mistake it for mirages," Mari said.

Shao blinked and looked to find Mari beside him. "Mari?" he said, startled. "Why are you here?"

"Oh silly Shao," Mari said, "Im not here. I'm just a mirage too."

Shao blinked and soon raised a hand to pinch his cheek. However, it was stopped as Mari reached up and held his arm.

"No, I'm real! Come on," she said with a light laugh. "Yasha sensei wanted me to make sure you didn't stay out too long. You okay?"

Shao shook his head and looked around. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just wanted to get a little training today." he said and nodded to Mari. "Thank you for your concern."

Mari smiled, knowing how hard Shao trained.
